Moses Ritchie McHenry was a son of Jean Ritchie and Patrick McHenry. About 1820 he built a paper mill in the Laurel Valley area and was a paper maker most of his life. In a deed dated 5 May 1838 Moses and his first wife, Catharine, sold a tract of thirty two acres to Francis A. Cathers. Moses and Catharine had seven children: William Franklin McHenry b: 1835 and died 1906, Thomas M McHenry b: 1838 and died 1863 while serving as a Surgeon in the Navy on board the USS Wanderer in Keywest, Florida, Elizabeth Tracy Mchenry [James]Whitecraft b: 1832 and died 1882, Moses McHenry b: 1839 and died 1860,
Betsy McHenry, John W. McHenry b: 1833 and died 1913,and Catherine died in infancy. After wife Catherine's death, about 1839, Moses married Ann Montgomery. They had seven children: Mathew G. McHenry b: 1845, Mary McHenry b: 1849, James L. McHenry b: 1859, Susan E. McHenry b: 1850, Duffield A. McHenry b: 1852, m: Elizabeth Mundel, d: 1932, Jane McHenry b: 1855 and Rachel McHenry b: 1860, m: James McMichael.
