Eliza Guire family story is that their original family surname was McGuire from Oglethorpe, GA. The McGuire family were well known blacksmiths. During the Reconstruction era after the Civil War, the McGuires killed a Union Soldier, why or how is not known to me. The local Sheriff gave them a head start and they fled west, across the river into Lincoln County where they changed their names from McGuire to Guire which became Guyer, Guyear, etc.
