He spent his entire live in Pittsylvania County, VA.
He was the son of the late William Pyrant Tarpley and Arminter Augusta Leftwich Tarpley.
Mr. Tarpley was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are his wife Mrs. Willie Essie Childress Tarpley of Danville, one daughter, Mrs. W F Ashworth and three sons, Anderson R Tarpley, Newport News, VA, Childress E Tarpley of the Martinsville Road, Danville and Carlton M Tarpley with the U S Navy.
Also surviving are two sisters Mrs. C J Ashworth and Mrs. Lucy Day, both of Bachelors Hall, VA and two brothers P A Tarpley and W W Tarpley, both of Route 2, Danville.
Funeral services were conducted at the chapel of F W Townes and Son. Burial was in the Ashworth Family Cemetery at Bachelors Hall.
