W. Augustus Stanhope, aged 77 years, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 1921, after being sick of heart trouble and pneumonia for one week. Mr. Stanhope was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stanhope, being born December 28, 1841, in Allentown, which place has always been his home. On December 28, 1882, he was married to Miss Margaret Kelley, who died about three years ago. Two brothers Harry and Charles Stanhope, of near Allentown, and one sister, Mrs. Georgina Shanley, of Trenton, survive him. He also leaves one son, Herbert Stanhope, of Allentown, with whom he has lived for some time past. Mr. Stanhope was a member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church. He worked at farm labor all his life and assisted at most of the hog killings around this neighborhood. During the past two years that he had been unable to work he made great friends with the children, who gathered around the porch of his home in pleasant weather. Rev. J. A. Matheson preached the funeral sermon Tuesday, January 4. Interment was in Allentown Cemetery under direction of G. V. Leming. [Allentown Messenger (NJ), Thurs., 6 Jan 1921]
