"Bill," as he was known to relatives and friends, lived almost his entire life near Lamartine, Salem Township, (Clarion County), Pennsylvania.
Bill was engaged in drilling and contracting, but he also helped his Father Samuel Richard Shaner (1842 - 1916) farm.
Bill also helped with the drilling of the three oil wells on his father's farm, and he had a share in them, eventually owning them himself. These wells were still producing some oil at his death.
Since Bill lived close to his parents, he took the responsibility of "looking after" them.
