He had at least four half siblings: Walter Edwin Krapff (1910 – 1967), Glenn William Krapff (1916–1927), Gordon T. Krapff (1917 – 1976) and Helen Krapff.

Donald E. Krapff (1924 Illinois) of Shelby County, Illinois enlisted as a Private (S/N 36484662) in the U.S. Army on 13 May 1943 in Peoria, Illinois. He was single, had completed 4 years of high school and had been working in the “Unskilled chainmen, rodmen, and axmen, surveying” occupation.
Private, Donald E. Krapff was assigned to the 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division.
He died on May 4, 1945 on Luzon Island, Philippines.

Pvt. Donald Krapff, 20, of Ohio was killed in action on Luzon, May 4, according to a war department telegram, received by his father, John Krapff. He had been overseas since September, 1944. Pvt. Krapff was born on a farm near Ohio, attended rural school and was a graduate of Ohio high school. Besides his father, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Helen Wilson and Mrs. Marilyn Nelson, both of Kasbeer, also two brothers, Sgt. Gordon Krapff at Santa Ana, Calif., and Seaman Walter Krapff, now stationed at Treasurer Island, San Francisco.
