Pvt. U.S. Army, WW2-Pvt. Abbey was killed in action three days after "Operation Overlord" was put into effect on 6-9-1944 while serving with the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. They secured the beach exits at ST. Martin-deVarenville area. He was killed near Carentan, France.

He is the son of Mr. David P. & Mrs. Cecelia S. {Bamber}Abbey of Peoria, Illinois, and he graduated mid-year from Manual Training H.S. in 1942, and was working in Southern Illinois when he enlisted on February 10, 1943.

He does leave two brothers, Frank and Richard Abbey, {d.2012}. and two sisters, Miss Marilyn, and Miss Nanette, all of Peoria.

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Jump Wings, Presidential Unit Citation, European Campaign Medal with One Battle Star, Army Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal.
