115 Squadrons' Avro Lancaster II (#DS655) aircraft, with an aircrew of seven, took off at night from RAF Wretham, for an air operation flight over Germany. Over the target area DS655 was hit by flak and crashed, taking the lives of six members of the crew. The airman who survived the crash was captured and imprisoned in a German PoW camp.
