Olympic Medal Recipient. She was an American bronze medal recipient in Lady's single Figure Skating at Lake Placid Olympics in 1932. She was a two-time World Figure Skating Championship medalist, placing silver in 1928 and bronze in 1930. She was the 1937 North American champion and a nine-time U.S. national champion. She became a widow in 1952 when her husband died suddenly of a heart attack. Along with her two daughters, Laurence and Maribel, she coached Tenely Albright, who was awarded America's first Olympic Gold Medal in Ladies figure skating in 1956. She and her two daughters perished in an aircraft crash along with coaches and the entire 18-member United States figure skating team, who were aboard the Sabaena Airline flight en route to the 1961 World Championship in Prague.
