Dorothy A Chestnut was born in Kittanning to George and Dorothy Shoup Chestnut. Siblings of Dot were: Larry, George and Darrell Chestnut.

On May 7, 1974 she married Blair 'Pete' Peterman.

Dot was the mother of Kim and Sheila and an infant son who died, Jimmy Eddy. She was step-mother to Doug and Craig Peterman and grandmother to Bryan, Toby, Kayla, Zach, Seth, Alaina and Anna. Dot was better known as 'Bubbles' to some.

A book marker in Dot's Bible said: 'The most beautiful flower in life's garden is a Friend' and she was a special one. Dot had worked as a Pediatric LPN. she was a member of the Plumcreek Church of the Brethren, was church secretary for a period of time, sang in the church choir, and served on various commissions, she also taught a children's Sunday school class.

She loved to quilt and was quite good at it, many have the results of her handiwork. She was a member of the Iselin Quilters and the Loyal Hannah Quilting Guilds.

As she loved quilting she also loved being a Master Gardener. She was so proud of the flower garden out back in her and Pete's yard. In 2004 she put together and gave out a little booklet of the flowers in her garden to those who made the tour of Master Gardeners. The booklet's title was: Dotti Peterman's Little Patch of Flowery Blossoms. She wrote on the front cover:
'I have always had a love for gardens and working with God's beautiful miracles. I will till and nourish these gifts as long as the Lord provides me strength. This garden is dedicated to God.' Her favorite flower was the rose.

Funeral services were held at the Plumcreek Church of the Brethren, Shelocta, PA on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 11 AM, Rev. Dorothy Kunselman officiating.

Interment was in the Atwood Cemetry, Atwood Borough, Armstrong County, PA Arrangements by Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., Elderton, PA
