Jean M. Manthei, 65, of Rockford died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in her home. Born March 3, 1945 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Melbourne and Beverly (Bennett) Hegge. Graduated from Hononegah High School, 1963. Married Darrell Lowe on November 29, 1969. This marriage ended in divorce in 1981. Two children came from this marriage. On September 9, 1989, married David Earl Manthei. Jean worked for Defense Contract Administrative Services for over 34 years. During this time, she took shorthand and worked her way up to Contracting Officer. Jean was also interested in genealogy. She enjoyed studying her mother's family, who came on the Mayflower, and was a member of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She also enjoyed studying her fathers family, who were all Norwegian and she made four trips to Norway. Jean was a member of Sons of Norway for many years.
She is survived by her father, Melbourne (Ann) Hegge; husband, Dave; sons, Jason (Brandi) Lowe, and Erik (Libby) Lowe; grandchildren, Carter and Heather Lowe; sister Pat Wishop. Predeceased by her mother, Beverly; step mother, Lorraine; and brother in law, John Wishop.
Memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at Rockford First, 5950 Spring Creek Road, Rockford Il on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel assisted the family.
