United States Army Air Force Aviator. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the 350th Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group.

He died during his service in Melkwezer, Linter, Flemish Brabant, Belgium, and was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.

Belgium memorial at the entrance of the church of Drieslinter in Linter Belgium to the three Allied airmen who died nearby. It was inaugurated on 10 May 2015. The airmen were United States Army-Airforces First Lieutenant Olger I. Aal, 21, the pilot of P-47 44-19580 and the two crew of a Mosquito, Australian pilot William Searle Valle, 27, and UK Flight Lieutenant Alfred E D Ashcroft, 24, navigator
