The Augustin that arrived in Texas was born 29 Nov 1842 in Oderen, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France. This little boy was one of the first of the Alsatian immigrants to die in Texas as it is recorded in both Henri Castro's and Bishop Odin's journals on 30 Sep 1844.
In my own research I have only been able to estimate the second Augustin A Haller's birth as occurring about May of 1844, based on the pattern of births of the other children. I doubt there was a way to record the birth or Christening, or if there was, the records may be lost to time.
Josephine Haller, another sibling, was born 17 Mar 1840 according to birth and Christening records, so any other 1840 birth is almost impossible. The reason for a second male being named Augustin may be lost to history, but for the Alsatians, recycling a given name was the norm. As to the age difference between the two Augusts, I cannot say. Jean Haller died in 1845 when bitten by a snake while cutting thatch for a roof. If Jean's death occurred in December of 1845...the latest time for the second Augustin to be born would be September of 1846 and for the birth, it could be no sooner than September of 1843.
