Cora is listed in the 1900 Berrien Co GA as Cora L WEBB grand-daughter of Daniel and Nancy Kinard Hiers. They were the parents of Lilla Hiers Hays. All other records lists Cora as Cora Hiers. A child's surname is usually the same as the mother's which would indicated Cora's mother, Lilla Hiers, married a Webb. No record has been found of this marriage; however, Cora's parents may have divorced as Lilla's marriage to Albert Hays [Hayes] is listed as Lilla Hiers, not Webb, as found in Berrien Co, GA 1896 marriage records. The spelling of the 'Hays' surname changed to 'Hayes' in the early 1900's.

Cora's mother, Lilla, died in a house fire in 1899 leaving daughter Cora, daughter Louannie Hays, son John Dewey Hays, and husband Albert Hays. The Hays children remained with their father Albert, but Cora moved to live with her Hiers grandparents as sge is found in 1900 as Cora L Webb, 1910, 1920 as Cora Hiers in Berrien GA with her grandparents and Uncle Phillip. Lilla's grandchildren knew Cora to be the half-sister to their mother, Lilla.

Cora married in Berrien GA as Cora HIERS to John W Crosby, widower, and father of several small chilren. John's deceased wife was Cora's cousin Cora Denby whose mother was Nellie Kinard. John and Cora had no children, but she was cousin and step-mother to his children. John, Cora, and children are found in Brooks, Colquitt, and Tift counties. According to Cora's Georgia Death Certificate # 023757, her last residence was Tift Co, GA which was also her place of death. Cora lived her entire life less than fifty miles from her place of birth. Cora's half-sister, Louannie Hays Annis, lived in Colquitt Co and her half-brother, John Dewey 'Johnny' Hayes, lived in Tift County.
