Mrs. Henry Pogue Expires; Widow Of Noted Merchant
Mrs. Henry Pogue, widow of one of the founders of the H. and S. Pogue Company, died yesterday morning in her apartment at Vernon Manor. Although she had been in failing health for a year, it was not until last Wednesday that she became seriously ill.
A daughter of John Crawford, Mrs. Pogue was born in Cincinnati 73 years ago. Her maiden name was Mary Isabella Crawford.
Her family moved to new York when she was a child. She passed her girlhood in that city. After her marriage to Henry Pogue she returned to Cincinnati and had lived here ever since.
Her husband was the eldest of five brothers. With Samuel Pogue he founed the H. and S. Pogue Company.
Mrs. Pogue was a member of the Church of the Advent, Colonial Dames, Cincinnati Woman's Club, Cincinnati Country Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former President General of the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor.
She is survived by three daughters, Miss M. Elsie Pogue, Mrs. John Langdon Gates, and Mrs. Victor L. Tyree, and one son, John Crawford Poge, Secretary and Treasurer of the H. and S. Pogue Company, all of Cincinnati.
Services for Mrs. Pogue will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gates, 2312 Park Avenue. The time of the servies will be announced today.
