An automobile accident, resulting in a fatality, occurred about 12:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, at a point as short distance south of the Fossil creek school house, on the College avenue road, some four miles south of Fort Collins, the child meeting death being Alex Achziger, aged six years, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Achziger, who reside about a half mile south of the school. The automobile which hit the boy was being driven by Dr. R. F. Replogle, Mrs. Replogle was also an occupant of the machine. According to the statement of Dr. Replogle, he was driving southward at a rate of perhaps 20 to 25 miles an hour and he observed two boys walking along the east side of the road, at the outside edge of the wheel track, they also going to the south. A little girl, Lea Achziger, a sister of the Achziger boy, it is said was walking in the same direction but on the opposite side of the road. Dr. Replogle states that when his machine was a short distance from the boys, the younger started to cross the roadway directly in front of the machine. Dr. Replogle swerved the auto to the right and at the same time attempted to stop, but he was unable to miss the lad and a fender struck him, knocking him to the ground. It was possible that a front wheel passed over the boy, Dr. Replogle states. Dr. Replogle took the boy to the latter's home where he died within perhaps a half hour after being struck. The sheriff's office was notified of the accident and in turn called Coroner H. M. Balmer who went to the scene of the accident and brot the boyd of the boy to the Balmer mortuary. Undersheriff Ira O. Knapp reached the place a few mintues after the accident and made some observations. The father of the dead boy is a Russian and has been employed with the Harmony Threshing company. He was not at home when the fatality occurred. It was stated Wednesday afternoon that a coroner's jury will be called to investigate the accident. Mr. and Mrs. Achziger have four other children.
