Obituary:
Alta King, daughter of Wm. and Maria King, was born in Mitchell County, Iowa, October 26, 1862. Came with her parents to Phillips Co., Kansas, in January 1874. She united with the Baptist church of Phillipsburg at the age of 14, being baptized by Rev. N. B. Homan. At the age of 19, she was married to James F. Tomberlin, the same minister officiating. They lived some time in Phillips County on Big Creek on the farm of her childhood. Two years of their married life was spent in Arkansas, when the returned to Phillips County, moving on the old homestead, where she died July 13, 1895. She was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church at the time of her death. She was known as a devoted Christian, a true companion, a loving mother, a good neighbor and friend. She leaves a husband, two children, mother and sister and many friends who mourn her loss. Her death was sudden , but the end was peaceful. We shall miss you, mother, but we will try not to weep, for we shall meet again. The service was conducted by the writer in the grove on the farm near where she was married. After the services, we laid her away to rest until the resurrection morning, where we hope to meet again.
