Happy memories of the celebration, on March 25th, last, of a golden wedding anniversary, were shadowed today, when Mrs. August Vergin of Kouts, passed away at the home. Death came at 5:30 o'clock this morning, the result of a complication of ailments.
Miss Alvina Werner, daughter of John P. and Rose Schmitt Werner, was born in LaPorte County, August 24, 1860. On March 25, 1878, she was united in marriage to August Vergin, and to this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters: Mrs. Edward G. Rosenbaum, Hobart; Mrs. Harry Alvey, Cavour, South Dakota; Mrs. Rolland Feece, Hebron; Mrs. Edison Jaques, Hebron; Richard Vergin, of Boone Grove; Arthur Vergin, of Calumet City, Ill.; and Harry Vergin, Boone Grove. Mrs. George Wolfram, a daughter, preceded the mother in death. There are seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The husband also survives.
Mrs. Vergin was prominently identified in Lutheran church circles of the Kouts community.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Lutheran church with Rev. H. Hicken officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, west of Kouts.
