He was born May 6, 1921, in Greenville, Ohio, the son of Edward Grote and Clara Grote. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #2790, Elks Lodge #1534, American Legion Post #158, Union City V.F.W., and Greenville Moose Lodge 1139. He was secretary for Eagles Lodge #2790 for 46 years.
His wife, Gladys Grote, died in 1996.
Survivors include one son, Michael (wife Janis) Grote of Union City, Ind.; one daughter, Linda (husband Scott) Bailey of Union City, Ind.; three grandchildren and two sisters, Inez Clark and Betty Olwine, both of Greenville, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Corliss Grote.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and until time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. An Elks Lodge of Sorrow and Eagles Lodge of Sorrow will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
