OBITUARY :
EARL R. ADAMS, 82, of 339 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, Pa., died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in his home following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born Aug. 17, 1927, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles R. and Anna Grace (Noll) Adams. He lived his early life in the Waynesboro area.

He graduated from Washington Township High School with the class of 1945.

Mr. Adams served with the United States Army during World War II.

He and his wife of over 61 years, Helen E. (Wishard) Adams, were married on March 19, 1949, in Hagerstown, Md. They have lived at their present residence for the past 16 years.

Following his discharge from the military, Mr. Adams worked at Pryor's Tire Service in Waynesboro and Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. He later owned and operated Adams Garage in Greencastle for over 30 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church, Greencastle, for 40 years.

Mr. Adams enjoyed woodworking, hunting and family trips to the beach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael R. Adams and his wife Ruth Ann of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Deborah A. Weller and her husband Jeffrey of Greencastle and Julie A. Reichard and her husband Craig of Clear Spring, Md.; seven grandchildren, Jeri, Traci, Ann Elizabeth, Benjamin, Dustin, Katie and Derek; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Aul of Greencastle; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Kline, and three brothers, Charles Adams, Paul Adams and Kenneth Adams.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Otterbein United Brethren Church, 146 Leitersburg St., Greencastle, with the Rev. David G. Rawley, officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Otterbein United Brethren Church Building Fund, 146 Leitersburg St., Greencastle, Pa., 17225.
