Son of Ernest Caldwell Hoots and Minnie Lenoir "Mintie" Orr Hoots.

World War II Veteran - Ninth Division Artillery of the U. S. Army and was of the 84th Field Artillery Battalion B. His service involved seven major campaigns and battles, including the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes, as well as Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received medals of commendation for saving other American soldiers lives from his artillery position. His journey took him to North Africa, Sicily, England, France, Belgium, and ended eight miles from Berlin, German.

Employed by Cranston Print Works in Fletcher for 31 years after his military service.

Member and deacon of the Upward Kelley Memorial Baptist Church.

Married to his wife of 63 years, Ethel Jackson Hoots.

Father of one son and 3 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.
