Dorothy G. Sherwood, Galesburg Chapel
90, formerly of Henderson, Ill. died at 9 p.m. Wednesday July 7, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1919 in Smithshire, Ill. the daughter of Lyle and Vivan Downes Galbreath. She married W. Harold Sherwood on March 17, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death June 6, 2009.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Donald (and Donna) Sherwood and Garry Sherwood, both of Galesburg, one daughter, Alice (and Richard) Arnold of Germantown Hills, Ill., a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Sherwood of Galesburg, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John on June 23, 2008 and five brothers.
Dorothy graduated from Media High School in 1938. She lived on a farm in Iowa from 1945 to 1949 and then spent most of the rest of her life in Henderson, Ill. She was the post master in Henderson for 17 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She was also a member of the Bowling Association and an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday July 10, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Lee Savage will officiate. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Henderson United Methodist Church or the St. Jude's Children's Hospitals.
