Edward Jackson "Ed" Stephens was born on May 4, 1910 in Isham, Scott Co., Tennessee which is very near the Kentucky state line. His parents did not give him a middle name but later as an adult Edward used "Jackson", one of his father's given names.

Edward's parents were General Jackson George Washington Stephens (1874-1959) and Dora Mae Spradlin (1881-1924). Jackson was born in Scott Co., TN, Dora in Whitley Co., KY. Both are buried in the Stephens Family Cemetery located in Isham, Scott Co., Tennessee.

Edward's paternal grandfather was Alvin Stephens (1840-1883), his great-grandfather Whitmill Stephens (1809-1866), his GG-grandfather Solomon Stephens (1781-1870) and his GGG-grandfather Moses Stephens II (1762-1807), a Revolutionary War soldier.

Edward left Scott Co., TN in 1932 and moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio were he worked in a restaurant. In 1933, he moved again, this time to Parksville, Boyle Co., KY to live with his oldest sister, Ada Mae (1896-1974) and her husband Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Cooper (1892-1951). They had a farm on Tennessee Ridge just down the road from Edward's uncle, William Whitmill Stephens (1869-1956). William was married to Sarah Jane Wilson (1873-1937).

On July 27, 1935, Edward married Nellie B. Wilson (1916-1885). He had known her from the McCreary Co., KY/Scott Co., TN area having dated her older sister, Stella Marie Wilson (1912-1977), when both their families lived there. At 6'4 Edward was much taller than Nellie who was only 5'0. She could actually stand under his out-stretched arm.

Nellie had moved with her parents to Boyle Co. in 1929. She was the daughter of Harlan Jacob Wilson (1887-1965) and Amanda Etter "Mandy" King (1890-1964). Her father was owner/operator of the Pine Grove Grocery located on White Oak Road just outside Junction City. Nellie's mother, Mandy ,was a great-granddaughter of Thomas Murray King (1790-1880) and Mary Rebecca Cox (1800-1881).

In 1942, Edward, after receiving training in the art of welding in Lexington, KY moved his family to Chester, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania. There he was a part of the WWII effort working in the shipyards.

Moving to Pennsylvania from Parksville in Boyle Co. at about the same time was Ed's younger brother, Ernest Norman "Steve" Stephens, as well as Ed's cousins, Luther R. King and Oscar E. King. They too, served their country during WWII as welders, building ships in Pennsylvania for the Navy.

Following the war, Edward and his family returned to Boyle County in Kentucky (Nov. 1, 1946). his brother and cousins stayed in Pennsylvania. Edward eventually purchased a farm just outside Junction City where he and his wife Nellie lived the rest of their lives. They supplemented their farm income by working at the Kentucky State Hospital in Danville, located close to Junction City. Edward worked at the hospital for 27 years. Nellie worked there for 30 years.

Nellie died on Sept. 5, 1995 in Danville, Boyle Co., KY at the age of 78. She Is buried in the Wilson Family Fairview Cemetery which is located just outside Junction City on White Oak Road.

Edward and Nellie were married for 61 years and had six children. They were Atlanta Rose Stephens (1936-2018 ), Calvin Luther Stephens (1938- ), Clyde Dorsey Stephens (1940-1967), Norman Edward (1942-1942), Fredia Louise Stephens (1944- ) and Andrew Jackson Stephens (1946-2008). Edward's son Clyde lost his life while serving his country as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War.

Edward died on Oct. 22, 1996 in Junction City, Boyle Co., KY at the age of 86. He was buried next to his beloved wife, Nellie, in the Wilson Family Fairview Cemetery.
