ILLNESS FATAL TO CANTON GIRL, MONICA METCALF

Monica Metcalf, 12 year old daughter of Howard and Vivian Wood Metcalf of 3 Pasadena Drive, Canton, died Tuesday in an Asheville hospital after a brief illness.
She was a straight A student preparing to enter Canton Junior High School. Miss Metcalf had won many beauty and scholastic awards, including the Miss Congeniality Award in the 1972-73 Rhododendron Fextival. She had studied voice, dance, and piano and had given solos at club programs. She was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church. She was a member of Smoky Mountain Kids. She had won athletic awards in swimming and bowling.
Surviving in addition to the parents are the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Erastus Wood of Clyde; the paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Marion Metcalf Sr. of Canton; and two maternal great-=grandmothers, Mrs. Clara Morgan of Clyde and Mrs. Ada Wood of Atlanta, Ga.
Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Lack officiating.
Burial will be in the mausoleum in Crawford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Wilde, Rick Cagle, Gary and Terry Stewart, Mike Miller and Doug Hyatt. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ernest Goodwin, Dr. George Freeman, Johnny Rhinehart, Horace Sellars, Dave Smiley, and Dr. Julian Brookshire.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Broyhill Children's Home.
