Mr. Vernie Lanning, Jr., age 74, of Canton, passed away on Saturday, January 03, 2009 at Heartland Hospice.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Allen, Rev. Buddy Roper, Rev. Bobby Segars, Rev. Calvin Ball and Rev. Lloyd Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after 1:00 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday at Sosebee Funeral Home.
Mr. Lanning was retired from Genuine Parts. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a Deacon of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleene Lanning; Father, Vernie Marion Lanning, Sr.; survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Allen Smith of Cartersville and Janis Lanning of Canton; mother, Alice Pendley Lanning of Canton; grandchildren, Brandy Hill of White, Jennifer Long of White and Dustin Smith of Acworth; great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Daulton Hill of White and Emerson Smith of Acworth; brother-in-law, Leon Cox of Canton;
