A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Carther Metcalf and Mae Allman Metcalf. She is also preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Carther Hutchinson and Michael Loy Hutchinson; and four brothers, Dwayne "Buck" Metcalf, J. D. Metcalf, Levi Metcalf and Robert Metcalf. Having lived most of her life in Henderson County, she retired from Kimberly Clark Corp. and was of the Baptist faith. She was also a member of Rob Morris Chapter of Eastern Star for several years.
She was survived by three daughters, Marilyn McMinn McCreadie of Saluda, Sharon H. Gordon of Saluda and Teresa H. Simpson of Pisgah Forest; brother, Buford Metcalf of Travelers Rest, S.C.; sister, Iris Gordon of Balfour; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2005 at Thomas Shepherd's Church Street Chapel. The Rev. Walter Gordon officiated. The family received friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Thomas Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center was in charge of arrangements.
