Homemaker. Member of a pioneer Colorado family-daughter of John P. Graves (1848-1925) and Emma Wadsworth (1854-1905). Married James F. Crooks, October 31, 1908, Broomfield, Colorado, with the Rev. Alfred William Tuck (1834-1922) officiating. Beloved member of the Broomfield community and long time farming resident of Boulder County (farm was bordered on the east by Sheridan Blvd. and on the south by 120th Avenue) east of Broomfield, Colorado (the farm is now a highly developed urban area within the boundaries of the City and County of Broomfield-Bertha Crooks sold the farm in 1957 and moved to Denver). Mrs. Crooks on occasion practised being a 'water-diviner,' or one who searched for underground water utilizing a dowsing rod. Worked as a volunteer with the Office of Price Administration during World War II in food rationing operations. Past member of Cresent Grange 136, Broomfield, Colorado. Wife of James F. Crooks (1883-1956), mother of Grace (1909-1989), Denver, Colorado; James P. (1911-1991), Trinidad, Colorado; Marjory Rose (1914-2005), Longmont, Colorado; and, Sister Marie M. (1921- 2020), Kansas City, Missouri. Grandmother of Joseph E. Koleski (1940-2004)-San Diego, California, Sharon Farnsworth (-)-Longmont Colorado, L. Koleski ( - ), Robert Crooks (1937-2017), Centennial, Colorado, and Evelyn Sawaya (1935-), Trinidad, Colorado. On January 24, 2003, Bertha's former home at 3225 West 26th Avenue in Denver was destroyed as the result of falling aircraft after a mid-air collision-the lot is now used for a vegetable garden. Jonathan Ross Ladd (1982-2003), a survivor of the Columbine High School shooting, was one of the pilots involved, flying a single engine Cessna-the other plane was a twin engined Piper.
