He was his mother's pride and joy, a brother and a friend. But the life of fourteen-year-old Tyler Bennett was cut unexpectedly short after what his family and friends call a "freak accident."

"My son ran to me and told me dad, Tyler's cut his leg off," said Michael Graham, Tyler's stepfather, "I thought he might have gotten hit by a train or something but we didn't even know they were out of the house."

Just around the corner from his home, Rockwood police said Tyler and three other juveniles were hanging out near a vacant home early Saturday morning. According to Tyler's stepbrother Justin Graham, Tyler ran off ahead of the juveniles. Justin said that when he caught up with Tyler, he found his brother with a wounded leg.

"A piece of glass cut his leg, an artery, and he bled to death down the street," said Michael Graham, Tyler's stepfather.

Tyler was rushed to Roan Medical Center and then transported to UT's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Rockwood police said it appears he cut one of the main arteries on the leg. They are still investigating what happened.
