Louis Allen Wrightington was born in Oyster Bay, the son of Phebe Louisa Beatty and Frederick Wrightington. He was a chief mate on the steamship Lake Gretna and died in Cardiff, Wales on February 4, 1920 of a concussion of the brain caused by falling down on the dock while returning to his ship. He died in the Royal Hamedryad Seamen's Hospital in Cardiff. An article in the Cardiff newspaper the Western Mail dated February 4, 1920 reads:

"Louis Wrightington, 39, chief mate of the steamship Lake Gretna fell a distance of 21 feet into Hill's Dry Dock, Cardiff on Tuesday. He was admitted to the Hamadryad Hospital in an Unconscious condition."
