KEMP -- Harvey F. Townsend, 77, retired, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at a hospice in Tyler. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials: Expressions of sympathy to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701. Harvey Townsend was born June 4, 1923 in Altus, Okla. He married his wife of 58 years July 2, 1942. Together they came to Fort Worth in 1947. He served on the USS Point Cruz Aircraft Carrier during World War II and established a post office on board. He also served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked most of his life for the Postal Service and was the first superintendent for the new Haltom City post office. After his retirement he and his wife, Doris moved to Cedar Creek Lake and have since lived in that area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 1192 and a Shriner of the Moslah Temple.
Survivors: Wife, Doris Townsend of Kemp; son, Kenneth Townsend and wife Carole of Paradise; daughters, Patricia Lunsford and husband, J. Dolan of Fort Worth, Janet Henderson and husband Steve of San Angelo; brothers, Charlie Townsend of Moore, Okla. and Melton Townsend of Clinton; grandchildren, J. Lynn Lunsford, Eric Lunsford, Angela Allen, Tammy Cunningham, Lucas Henderson and Lindsey Henderson; and 6 great grandchildren.
