Mary Esther Dirck Greer, 87, of Sedalia, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. She was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Hughesville, a daughter of John S. and Wilhelmina Paulina Wildebrandt Dirck. On Feb. 1935, in Warrensburg, she was married to James Junior Greer, who died May 25, 1983. Mrs. Greer grew up in Pettis County. She lived in the Bothwell community most of her life. She attended Bothwell School, and Smith-Cotton High School. She was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church. She was baptized at First Baptist Church in Sedalia when she was 13. When her children were young, she was active in the PTA and was a 4-H leader. She cooked lunches at Bothwell School, when her children attended there. She was a member of Homemaker clubs in the Bothwell community and in Otterville. She also was a member of the Bothwell Neighborhood Club. She was a member of the Friends of Bothwell Club. When it was organized and became one of the Missouri Community Betterment Clubs, she was elected the first chairwoman at the first meeting on Feb. 12, 1972. The clubs main purpose was to convince the state of Missouri to accept Bothwell Lodge and it's ground as a state park. That was accomplished shortly thereafter. Surviving are four daughters, Joanne Gardner, of Sedalia,; Judy Kuzemka, of Valparaiso, Ind.; Janet Weathers, of Clearwater, Fla,; and June Mettenburg, of Hobart, Ina,; a brother, John R. Dirck, of Sedalia; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased be a son, James John Greer; a grandson, James Bathrick; three brothers, David K. Dirck, Harry M. Dirck, and Jesse D. Dirck; and a sister, Ida Maurine Dirck. Funeral Services wil be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ewing Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Wasson officating. Pallbearers will be Robert S. Gardner, Michael Kuzemka, Lawrence Weathers, Harold Mettenburg, Howard Mettenburg, and Charles Wise. Burial will be in Mt. Herman Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, whhere the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Dream Factory, Mt. Herman Cemetery Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
