June 22, 1874, the body of Francis Colvin was found in the Seneca River by two fishermen. He had been hit over the head with an axe, bound and weighted with a large stone before being thrown in the river. It was believed the murder was done in December of 1873. Robbery was the motive.
Owen Lindsay was found guilty of murder in the first degree and executed March 26th, 1875. Bishop Vader was also tried and received life imprisonment for his part in the murder.
