Everette Odell Smart, 75, of Rt. 8, Hickory, died June 12, 1990 at his residence.

Born March 7, 1915, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Lee H. Smart and Nellie Mae Lail Smart.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army, and a retired self-employed building contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Carver Smart; three sons, Belvin Smart of Hickory, Freddie Smart and Buddy Smart of Connelly Springs; a step-son, Reggie Smart, of Hickory; a brother, Bishop Smart of Granite Falls; five sisters, Vergie Whisnant and Katie Perkins of Hickory, Lillie Mae Deal of Drexel, B.D. Norris of Hildebran, Clinzy Bowman of Newton; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild and a number of neices and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Carroll Craig at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 48 of Hickory.
