He was my Grandfather.
His name is Lee Horace Smart, as noted on his WWI Draft Card. But sometimes he was called (or sometimes listed) as Leehorse Smart.
Lee Smart picked up the nick name Leehorse when he was dating my grandmother Nellie Mae Lail. He would ride a horse from the Lawndale, NC area where he lived - into Burke County to come a courting Nellie. Every time he came to court, he was on his horse. So the name Leehorse was a nick name. He is Lee Horace on his WWI draft card, and death certificate.
Lee H. Smart married Nellie Mae Lail on March 7th, 1905; in the Lower Fork Township of Burke County, NC.
They had 14 Children, all now deceased...
