Ella came to Dakota in 1880 with her parents. The 1880 census Freeport, Illinois indicates Ella was a "servant" living at 496 Galena Avenue, Freeport, Illinois. Her father had died when she was 16-17 years of age. Lorell Charles Taylor and Ella married in February 1884 at Freeport, Illinois. Mr. Taylor was the son of Mr. Charles Nicholas Taylor & Mrs. Mary Baker Taylor, (Memorial # 62313602) pioneer residents of the Meckling vicinity & brother of Henry Guy Taylor of Vermillion. Four children born to this union all living at this time: they are Elmer L. of Hawarden, Iowa, Mrs. Jessie Edna Brown (b. 1887 d 1984 Kern county mckittrick, ca). Clarence W. of McKittrick, Calif, & Mrs John Sullivan, Sioux City. Other surviving relatives are two sisters: Mrs. August Rogers Piersol of Vermilion SD (aka Emma Agness Nash) a brother; Charles Nash, Bath, NY - & Mrs. Albert Gallatin Mathews(Eliza Ann Nash), Phx, AZ. The 1920 federal census indicates Ms. Taylor was widowed. Another source indicates she was divorced. I located a marriage license for L. Taylor & Mother Mary Baker Taylor matches Lorell Charles Taylor's parents, biographical data date of birth etc.) a newspaper article dated 12-4-1894 in the St. Joseph News-Press, Missouri indicates that after 5 months of marriage to Flora Houseman or Hauseman of Nova Scotia, Mr. Taylor left a box with belongings and a suicide note on the banks of a river. Authorities who responded to the call indicated they did not believe Mr. Taylor had thrown himself under the ice to die as he had written in the note.
