ESTHER K. BEST, 80, S. S. Kresge retiree
Esther K. Smith Best, 80, of 1627 E. County Road 430 S., Lafayette, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday in her home. She had been in failing health for the past six years.
She worked at S. S. Kresge for 20 years retiring in 1969.
Born Nov. 30, 1909, near Montmorence, she graduated from Montmorence High School in 1927. She had lived in Lafayette since 1935, coming here from the Farmers Institute area. She married Delbert C. Best April 25, 1928, in Otterbein. He survives.
Mrs. Best was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lafayette. She was a former member of Rebekah Lodge and Union Chapel United Brethren Church near Montmorenci, where she was the pianist and taught Sunday School. She had worked with the Girl Scounts and Cub Scouts, enjoyed ceramics and crocheting afghans and was past president of Linnwood Parent Teacher Association.
Also surviving are two sons, Donald E. Best of Buck Creek and Charles R. Best of Lafayette; two daughters, Mary Henson and Mrs. John Marjorie Deeming; a brother, Robert Smith; and a sister, Irene Platt, all of Lafayette.
