Tom was just one of three sons and eight daughters born to James Larue Enlow (1848-1920)and Mary Jane Kendall Enlow (1853-1924) in Larue Co, KY.
He married Maude Mae Barnes in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Nelson County on 18 Dec 1912.
He owned and operated the "Enlow Shoe Hospital" in Bardstown repairing shoes for men, women and children. He also managed to run a Enlow's Barber Shop at the same location on Third Street in Bardstown for many years. Everyone knew my grandfather.
I was very young but remember my grandfather very well. I know he had a prostatic leg (which I had never seen before) but do not know how he lost his leg, I just remember my grandmother removing it at night before bedtime. Papaw did not want the little kids to see his leg so Memmaw would shoo us out of the room when she helped him to bed.
Tom and Maude had eight children, seven daughters and one son. My mother was one of those daughters.
Since he came from a large family as well, he was use to a lot of family gatherings. I think Christmas was his favorite time of year when all the families got together to celebrate.
He was fascinating to me, and I have so many childhood memories of him. I was only 7 yrs old when he died.
