Anna Gertrude (Sherrard) Toone was the daughter of William Joseph and Helen Rebecca (Clark) Sherrard. She was born in Birdston, Freestone County, Texas and died in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas.
She married Taze Ezell Toone on 15 April 1917 in Mexia, Texas. She later married and divorced Jess Rivers in Corsicana.
With Taze, she had three children: Frances Evelyn Toone (Austin), born 18 March 1918, Lois Marie Toone (West), born 12 October 1920 and Thomas Edwin Toone, born 30 May 1927.
She was a poet, who left a large body of poems to her family. She worked hard all her life at whatever life presented her. To her children she was "Mother", and to her seven grandchildren, she was "Nene."
