She was the youger sister of President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. Painter by vocation, she was encouraged by his brother to perfect that natural gift. He received lessons from the French painter Raimund Monvoisin, who polished his style, specializing in portraits and miniatures. She was noted for their excellent works. Among other noteworthy portrait of the President of Chile Manuel Montt. She is among the first women painters of the nineteenth century Argentina. She and her husband, Engineer Mr. Benjamin Lenoir founded in the province of Mendoza, a school of Arts and Letters. She worked with the Charity Society of San Juan where he served as President since 1878.
