Mr. Helmick was born Nov. 9, 1919 in Tracy, Iowa, and died Feb. 15, 1997 in Florence. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member of Odd Fellows and was one of the first police reserve officers in Coolidge. He retired as Coolidge public works director and also retired as a fire captain with the city department. He was a member of the Coolidge Active Care emergency amateur radio team in the area and also First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marvel; two daughters, Vickie Pratt and Mel Linda Helmick; a son, Kelvin; 4 sisters, Neva Mathews, Dorothy Layton, Lucille Moody, and Ester Daniels; a brother, Ralph; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a sister and a brother.
