Dale L. Cheney Sr., 74, 834 8th St. N.E., Mason City, Iowa died Saturday May 1, 2010 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday May 5, 2010 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, Iowa with Rev. George Ady officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Family suggests memorials to Dale L. Cheney Sr. memorial fund.

Dale was born July 18, 1935 in Millersburg, Iowa the son of Howard and Esther (Morrison) Cheney. He graduated from Manly High School in 1953. He served in the National Guard following high school.

He went to work for the Rock Island Railroad, retiring in 1983 after working for them for over twenty-nine years. While working for the railroad he served as local chairman of the United Transportation Union from 1974-1980.

Dale married Betty Murl April 12, 1957 and to this union five children were born..

Dale was an avid reader, collector of many things, playing cards, caring for his home, family and friends, taking his dog Tazz on walks and especially spending time with his grandchildren attending all their activities and chauffeuring them around. He was an avid democratic activist and participated in multiple caucuses and democratic based activities. He was a member of The United Transportation Union.

Dale is survived by his wife Betty Cheney, Mason City, Iowa; four children Dale (Angela) Cheney Jr., Mason City, Iowa, Kelly (Gale) Mino, Martinez, Georgia, John (Tammy) Cheney, Mason City, Iowa and Carol Cheney, Mason City, Iowa; one sister Karen Chase, Hopkins, Minnesota and eleven grandchildren Kayce (Justin) Scott, Titus Usher, Desiree' Cheney, Emerald Cheney, Alexander Mino, Quinton Mino, Christian Mino, Hannah Cheney, Chloe Cheney, Dana Cheney and Jessica Mahaney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don Cheney, daughter Barbara Boehmer and his companion dog Tazz.
