John Merriwether, a veteran of the Civil war, died Saturday afternoon at his home in Georgetown. He had been in poor health for the past three years and suffered a stroke of paralysis several months ago, from the effects of which he never recovered.
Mr. Merriwether was 71 years old and was a native of this county [Floyd] where he lived all his life. For many years he was engaged in farming in Georgetown township but retired two years ago, moving to Georgetown. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, David Merriwether, of Georgetown; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Martin, Georgetown; and Mrs. Frank Kraft, his city. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Schwartz, of Logansport, Ind. He was a member of the United Brethren church.
Funeral services will be held at the United Brethren church in Georgetown at 10 a.m., Tuesday. Burial in Wolfe's graveyard.
