Harold Eugene "Cap" Ambrose, 78, died in his home in Tempe, Arizona on May 10, 2010.

Cap was born November 28, 1931 in Scottville, Illinois. He moved his family to Tempe, Arizona in 1976. He is the son of Luther and Lillie Mae (Harbaugh) Ambrose. He married Eva Marie Bristow on August 15, 1958 in Natchez, Mississippi.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Ambrose; and his sister, Ella Jean Moore.

Cap is survived by his wife, Eva Ambrose; his three children: Angela Janeen DeLaney, of Mesa, Gordon Ashley (Colette) Ambrose, of Chandler, and Amy Nadine Ambrose, of Hartley, IA; grandchildren: Austin Wayne Facio, Matthew Trent DeLaney, Brenton Nathaniel DeLaney and Scarlett Rebecca DeLaney; sisters: Helen Streck and Pauline King; five nephews; one niece; and several cousins.

Cap was a graduate of Northwestern High School in 1949 where he was active in basketball. Most of his life was spent driving a truck. Later in life, he was a service manager for several car dealerships. He retired in 1993 due to health issues. He was a charter member of Arizona Community Church.

Cap was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Palmyra Legion Post 1034. One of Cap's favorite pastimes was playing cards and Yahtze with Eva. Cap was best known among his friends and family for his terrific storytelling.

Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., in Tempe. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Arizona Community Church 9325 S. Rural Rd. in Tempe, AZ, with a reception to follow the service.

Interment will take place at East Resthaven Park Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arizona Community Church or Banner Heart Hospital.
