On a summer's afternoon, the family went to Laguna Beach, Canyon Lake, Maricopa County, Arizona, for an afternoon of recreation.

The Father had taken the two younger sons to the restroom and this is when, the adventurous 7 year old Rodney, decided to jump on their air raft/mattress on the beach, and come to fall off of the floatation devise just a few yards away from the shore line.

His Mother heard the splashing and cries for help, and ran into the water to help her son. Jeannie was never a swimmer.

She was recovered before the evening. Her Son was found the next morning, under the ledge where his Mother had stepped off of, in her attempt to rescue her son.
