Clarion County Trio Killed in Plane Crash
DuBois, Pa (UPI) Three persons from Clarion County were killed Tuesday night in the crash of their single engine Cherokee Arrow, three miles north of this Clearfield County community.
State police identified the victims as Olive Harmon, her son, Samuel Jr., 40 both of New Bethlehem, and John F. McGinley, 46, Clarion, who was believed to be the pilot.
A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the craft was returning from Harrisburg and had secured permission to land at the DuBois-Jefferson County Airport when it crashed into a knob in a wooded area.
The victims were pronounced dead on arrival at DuBois Hospital. The plane allegedly belonged to Harmon, who also was a pilot, but was not licensed for instrumental flying.
He and his mother reportedly were en route home after flying a visiting relative home.
Mrs. Harmon is the wife of Orlando 'Pete' Harmon. Her son was married and the father of three.
