CHARLES ALFRED NOLAND (1885-1914) was born in 1885 in Blanket Creek, near Sonora, California. (The March 5, 1908 Daily Gazette-Martinez showed his middle name as "Alfred," and his grammer school record indicated he formally went by "Alfred," although I believe he went by "Allie," according to his obituary).

In 1908, Allie married Nellie Amando (Selby) Noland Gookin (1887-1952). They had two sons, Selby Harold Noland (1910-1987) and Charles Russell Noland (1913-1982). Allie was initially a farm laborer before he became a coal and wood deliveryman.

In 1910, Allie and his family were living in Oakland. In 1914, however, Allie died in Sonora, at the young age of 29, after suffering for many months from tuberculosis. He is buried in the Sonora City Cemetery.

(Sometime after Charles Alfred "Allie" Noland died in 1914 and before 1920, Allie's widow, Nellie, married William Wallace Gookin (1874-1956), who was the ex-husband of Lillie Jane (Noland) Brunson, her former sister-in-law! Nellie Amando (Selby) Noland Gookin died in Contra Costa County in 1952.)
