FUNERAL SERVICES FOR FIRE VICTIMS
Funeral services were held Monday at the M. Garfield Barbour Funeral Home, Shippensburg , for two men who lost their lives in a blaze which swept through a one-time stable in New (sic) * Avenue, Shippensburg, early Saturday. Burial was made in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Services for Alfred J. Creamer, 58, a plasterer, who resided in the converted stable, were held with Rev. Frank Fry officiating. Services for Alexander Reed, 40, a Shippensburg factory watchman, were held in charge of Rev. M. C. Manning.
Dr. A. E. Haegele, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County coroner, said that both men apparently suffocated before flames of the burning structure reached them and charred their bodies beyond recognition. Issuing certificates of accidental death, the coroner said there would not be an inquest.
The coroner said the bodies of the men were found in the debris of a small bed in the makeshift apartment in the rear of the building occupied by Creamer. No defect was found in a small stove used to heat the apartment, and the coroner theorized the bed had been accidentally set afire by one of the men smoking.
