Esta Mae Ross DePriest, 85, of Muskogee, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 19, 1924 in Pierce, OK, to Steve Ross and Carrie Jacobs Ross. Esta married her soul mate, Eugene Ray DePriest, on September 8, 1944, in Kentucky, where Ray had been serving in the US Army. They had been married for 56 years at the time of Ray's death in 2000. Esta's passions in life were built around her family, faith, and all children. She was a full-time wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and serving them her award winning pecan pie. She enjoyed baking and many of her other recipes were also award winners. She also spent time as an active member of First Baptist Church of Muskogee, where she and Ray attended Sunday school and church. Esta was also very involved at the Muscogee Community Senior Center, and she was active in the Oklahoma Natural Gas Ongoers group for retirees and their spouses. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Muskogee Pantry. Esta never met a stranger and this was certainly obvious to those that new her through her various activities and chance meetings. Esta's love for children led her to become a well-known and much loved babysitter for many children in Muskogee. Young mothers throughout Muskogee entrusted their children with her for years. They knew Esta would pour her love and care into their children as if they were her own. Esta was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, by her mother and father, and by her seven older siblings.
