US NAVY - WORLD WAR II
CHELSEA - Robert J. Swan, 83, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a brief illness. He was born in Bethel on Oct. 4, 1926, a son of the late Albert L. and Ora E. (Field) Swan.
Mr. Swan attended Gould Academy and was a Navy veteran, serving four years during World War II as a seaman first class on the aircraft carriers SS Jeremiah O'Brien and USS Ranger.
He had been employed by the veterans administrations in Perry Point, Md.; Brockton, Mass.; and Togus, for more than 20 years. He had also worked for a time at Ganneston Builders as a superintendent.
He was predeceased by his wife, whom he was dedicated and devoted to for 48 years, Elizabeth J. (Marshall) Swan; and a brother, Ernest A. Swan.
Mr. Swan is survived by two sons, Andrew D. Swan and his fiancée, April, of Chelsea. and Marshall L. Swan and his wife, Carole, of Chelsea; two daughters, Jeanie Beaulieu and her fiancé, Gary A. Rood, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Nancy A. Bergfield and her husband, Gary, of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, A. Lee Swan, of South Paris; eight grandchildren, Eric Swan, Terri Mouce, Scott Swan, Jason Nicholas, Jake Swan, Johnny Swan, Tiffany Howell and Joey Saldivar; eight great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial will be in East Bethel Cemetery, East Bethel. (Kennebec Journal 5/4/2010)
