John J. Hotchkiss, 81, died peacefully on May 1, 2010. A lifelong resident of Central New York, he graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School and from Le Moyne College, with a BA in business administration. He worked for Loblaws Grocery and retired from Peter's IGA. John was a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, serving with the First Marine Division in the Korean War. He belonged to the Baldwinsville VFW and Eastwood American Legion. He enjoyed Le Moyne College and SU sports. He also enjoyed fishing and golf. John was the son of Joseph E. and Vera (Bertrand) Hotchkiss. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Peggy Purtell; his wife of 52 years, Eileen; and his daughter, Diane Vito. Survived by his sons, John (Pamela) of Manlius, Brian (Lu Ann) of Liverpool and Kevin (Tammy) of Jordan; son-in-law, Frank Vito of Constantia; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Minoa. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 3111 James Street. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY.
